Program Introduction

The Architecture Program at Hangzhou City University (HZCU) is a five-year undergraduate program, which successfully passed the National Architectural Education Accreditation in 2023, and officially joined the certification system of the Canberra Accord on Architectural Education. Graduates are awarded a professional degree in architecture, which is recognized by architectural organizations in over 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, Commonwealth of Nations, Japan and Hong Kong Speicial Administrative Region. This recognition lays a solid foundation for students to pursue international professional qualifications and cross-border career development.

Rooted in the "New Engineering Education" philosophy, the program has developed a unique "Technology + Humanities" dual-driven cultivation system, with three distinctive specializations: green architecture, digital design, and cultural heritage preservation. The program is equipped with advanced facilities such as an architectural physics laboratory and a digital design laboratory, featuring tools for parametric design, AI-generated content (AIGC) design, virtual reality (VR) technology, and 3D printing. A provincial-level engineering research center has been established,  equipped with comprehensive environmental simulation and testing facilities. Multiple practice bases support digital surveying and the dynamic preservation of historic districts.

The curriculum adopts a "Theory Foundation + Design Innovation" model. Theoretical courses cover core modules, including architectural theory and history, building physics and environment, and architectural structures and systems. These courses strengthen students' engineering fundamentals. Design courses span the entire five-year program, progressing from foundational art training and small-scale architectural design to urban complex projects, with specialized topics like historic building regeneration and smart community planning. Practical training accounts for 40% of the curriculum. Through an "Industry-Academia Studio" initiative, the program engages National Academy of Engineering academicians as advisors and collaborates with prestigious Chinese design institutions to mentor graduation projects.

The program cultivates versatile architectural talents with a global vision, innovative thinking, and technical integration capabilities. Notably, 10% of graduates pursue advanced studies at universities ranked in the QS Top 100, while alumni have contributed to landmark projects such as the Permanent Venue of the UN World Geospatial Information Forum and the Yunqi Town Convention Center.
