The School of Information and Electrical Engineering was established in March 2003 and is one of the earliest established schools at Hangzhou City University, originating from the Department of Information Engineering founded in 1999. The School currently has 97 full-time faculty members, with 48.46% holding senior titles and 74.23% holding doctoral degrees, including 5 doctoral supervisors and 33 master's supervisors. There are 3 national-level talents and 5 provincial-level talents in the faculty team. There are currently 12 post-doctoral fellows at the School. It offers four undergraduate programs: Automation, Electronic Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence, and Automation is the national first-class undergraduate program. Currently over 1,300 undergraduate students are enrolled in the School. Since 2003, the School has jointly trained more than 140 graduate students with universities such as Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, and East China Jiaotong University. In 2022, it was approved to grant the master's degree in Electronic Information Engineering and recruited its first self-trained master candidates of 25 in 2023.
The School hosts three disciplines, including Zhejiang Province's“14th Five-Year” first-class discipline (Class B) "Control Science and Engineering," the top priority discipline in Hangzhou city "Communications and Information Systems," and "Transportation Engineering." It also boasts research centers such as the Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for Edge Intelligence Technology and Equipment, the Smart Transportation Engineering Research Center, the Research Center for Gas Turbine Equipment and Intelligent Control, and the Urban Smart Energy Research Center. There are two innovation teams: the advanced electromagnetic technology innovation team, and the wireless communications and artificial intelligence application team. The School has won 4 Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, undertaken over 60 national and provincial natural science foundation projects, more than 40 major crosswise research projects, participated in the development of 2 national standards, and attracted more than 53 million yuan in scientific research funding over the past three years.
The distinctive feature and strength of the School is its integration of competition-based learning, research-based learning, and industry-education integration. In 2023, it was awarded the Zhejiang Province Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Information and Electrical Engineering. There are currently 5 teaching experiment groups with 30 sub-laboratories, which can accommodate more than 1,000 students to conduct experiments simultaneously. It selects outstanding students for special programs like the Innovation Experimental Class (Microelectronics) jointly run with Zhejiang University, the Intelligent Systems and Advanced Control Industry Class with Dahua Stock, and the Nanoscale Integrated Circuit Design and Industrial Industry Class with New H3C Group, fostering innovative talents skilled in industry, academia, and research. In the past five years, students have actively participated in competitions like the College Student Electronics Design Competition, Intelligent Car Competition, Intelligent Robot Creative Contest, and Physics Science and Technology Innovation Contest, and won more than 200 provincial-level awards, including 1 national grand prize, 3 first prizes, 7 second prizes, and over 70 provincial first prizes.
The School actively carries out school-local cooperation and builds two "micro-campuses" to promote distributed education. In February 2023, it signed a contract with Hangzhou High-tech Zone (Binjiang). Taking the construction of the Binjiang Innovation Center as the starting point, it promotes the construction of distributed education and science and education innovation complex of the Binjiang micro-campus. Laboratories and off-campus practice bases are also built with well-known companies such as Zhejiang Dahua Stock, New H3C Group, Silergy, Zhikong Technology, Leapmotor Technology, Emerson, and so on. At the end of December 2023, it signed a contract with Gongshu District to lead the construction of the Academy of Edge Intelligence Hangzhou City University, focusing on common key technology research, core equipment development, technological achievement transformation, industry incubation, and talent development in the field of edge intelligence technology and equipment.
