School of Engineering founded in 1999, is a high-level school with distinctive characteristics, excellent quality and vitality. It aims to cultivate high-quality practical talents for the national needs of the powerful transportation and manufacturing industry. It consists of the Department of Civil Engineering (the first head of the Department is Professor Chen Yunmin) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering (the first head of the Department is Professor Tan Jianrong). It is one of the oldest schools in Hangzhou City University, and is renowned for its strong academic, research, and education capabilities.

School of Engineering offers master's degrees in civil engineering and water conservancy, and jointly trains doctoral and master students with Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Xi 'an University of Technology, Anhui University of Science and Technology, East China Jiaotong University, Changzhou University, Shaoxing University, etc. It has five undergraduate programs: civil engineering ( first-class program in Zhejiang Province ), mechanical and electronic engineering, mechanical and electronic engineering (upgraded from junior college), intelligent manufacturing engineering, and intelligent construction. Currently, more than 700 undergraduates are enrolled in the School.

Now the School has 152 faculty and staff, 95 are full-time professional teachers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 national leading talent, 1 national young talent, 3 provincial young talents, 23 professors. Among them, 61% are with senior titles, and 85.3% are with doctorate degrees. The School prioritizes the faculty team building and the improvement of professional abilities. Faculty members have won more than 10 provincial honors such as national model teachers, advanced individuals in the Three Talent Cultivation of Zhejiang Province, and hundreds of young pacesetters of independent innovation in science and technology in the province. In the past three years, we also won 8 national and provincial teaching ability competition awards.

School of Engineering has built three Zhejiang Engineering Research Centers (Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Center of Integrated Manufacturing Technology and Intelligent Equipment, Zhejiang Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Urban Infrastructure, and Zhejiang Engineering Research Center of Building's Digital Carbon Neutral Technology) and one provincial key laboratory (Key Laboratory of Safe Construction and Intelligent Maintenance for Urban Shield Tunnels of Zhejiang Province). At the same time, the Yunqi Advanced Materials Additive Manufacturing Technology Innovation Research Center was co-built with the Xihu District of Hangzhou, and the Yunqi Cross Technology Research Institute was also established.

The School follows the CDIO (Conception-Design-Implementation-Operation) international engineering education concept and is committed to the cultivation of talents with application-oriented, compound and innovative ability to solve complex engineering problems. Focusing on practical training, we have built more than 20 professional teaching laboratories, such as the comprehensive practical innovation base and the engineering design center. Focusing on practice, we have established cooperative relationships with more than 30 top enterprises, and hired industry mentors and mental supervisors to jointly guide students. We also pay attention to the whole process of training, every faculty member participates in the tutoring activities, to effectively support students to participate in scientific research training and discipline competition. Innovation is also our priority, and a smart energy class was set up to encourage creativity. "Innovative training of applied engineering talents with deep integration of industry and education based on CDIO concept" won the first prize for teaching achievement in Zhejiang Province.

Based in Hangzhou, serving Zhejiang and facing the whole country, the School of Engineering promotes the integration of government, industry, university and research. We worked with local industries and enterprises to carry out new technology research and application, engineering evaluation and technical consulting, monitoring and testing technical services, cooperative research programs and on-site practice. Since HZCU became a public university, the School's faculty members have hosted over 49 national and provincial natural science fund projects, won 21 provincial and ministerial awards, achieved 286 authorized invention patents, 290 utility model patents, and published 464 articles in high-level journals at home and abroad.
