The School of Marxism at Hangzhou City University was established in July 2020. In October 2021, the School signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Zhejiang University, to build the School in HZCU together.

The School currently has 35 faculty members, with 34% holding senior professional titles, 84% holding a doctoral degree, 53% being young teachers under 40, and 72% are graduates from "double first-class" universities in China. So far, the School has experts in the Zhejiang Province Philosophy and Social Science Planning Discipline Group, as well as participants in the Zhejiang Province 151 Talent Project, Zhejiang Province Leading Talent Training Program for Universities, Zhejiang Province "Zhejiang Youth Social Science Scholars," Hangzhou City Leading Talents, Hangzhou City 131 Talents, Hangzhou City Outstanding Young Social Science Talents, Hangzhou City-owned University Leading Talents, and Hangzhou City-owned University Outstanding Young Doctoral Support Program candidates at all levels.
