As of the end of 2023, the School of Humanities has gathered 31 full-time faculty members, including experts in various disciplines with such titles as the “Changjiang Scholar,” the “New Century Outstanding Talent” supported by the Ministry of Education, and the “National Plan for the Special Support for Top-notch Talent” supported by the Hangzhou Municipal Government. 28 full-time teachers hold the doctoral degrees, accounting for 90.3% of the total. We engage with a multiplicity of subject areas from literature and history of the Song Dynasty, Zhejiang local literature and history, to urban cultural studies. To facilitate academic research and activities, the School has set up two research platforms, the Zhejiang History Research Center and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Cultural Research Institute. The former has been awarded the “Key Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province,” and is committed to growing into a first-class research platform for the Zhejiang regional history. Besides, being renowned as a leading team in China, the Study of Song History has obtained multiple achievements and been recognized as an influential force in the academic community.

Aiming at establishing the “new liberal arts,” the School of Humanities is dedicated to fostering virtue and reforming the disciplinary structure through education. To meet the diversified needs of Chinese language professionals, keeping a foothold in Hangzhou and extending the concerns to Zhejiang and the whole country, the Chinse Language and Literature Program has created application-oriented training goals and a professional teaching system. In 2024, the History Program will be established, which is designed to cultivate young scholars with a broad humanistic foundation, interdisciplinary vision, and international views.

The School of Humanities is committed to laying the "keystone" of Hangzhou City University, cultivating the liberal arts education and fostering the humanistic temperament of the teachers and students. Deeply devoted to the education of liberal arts, we collaborate with the General Education Center to set up the general education system, featuring selected core curriculum and General Education Lectures. In addition, in cooperation with the Library, we seek to build a special collection of rare books and materials with certain characteristics and recognition.
